The Use of Collagen in Halal Skin-Care Products

Posted by on

Collagen is one of the widely used ingredients in the cosmetic industry that has stirred up concerns in the Muslim community because the naturally occurring protein is extracted from tendons, bones, and skin of animals such as swine, which is haram to consume in Islam. In the Quran, Allah says: "He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. "(16:115)

However, Collagen is allowed to use only if the source from which it's extracted from is permitted for consumption. Beef, aquatic animals and chicken are halal. Therefore, the collagen produced from these animals are acceptable and can be used in beauty products. Collagen is responsible for promoting firmness and elasticity to your skin. It's found in skin-care products, particularly anti-aging and fairness creams. According to Islam, you can use collagen-based products as long as it doesn't contain haram ingredients.

At Hebeloft, we recommend the Skylake Tea Tree Mist. Made from pure organic tea tree oil and halal ingredients, the mist is soothing and hydrating for your skin. Tea tree oil is found to be useful in killing fungi, skin bacteria and infections that cause acne. If you've got stubborn acne or problematic skin, you can't go wrong with this tea tree mist. It's perfect for summers to restore the moisture balance of your skin.
